With Educative’s Confluence Integration, it’s easier than ever to add Confluence documentation to your private Educative Content. All you need to do is activate our integration with your email and an API Key- follow the steps below to get started.
Access: In Educative, you will need to have Manager or Executive Role access in order to take this action.
Activating the Confluence integration is an easy process.
First, you’ll want to make sure you are logged into both Confluence and Educative on separate browser tabs:
Getting your Confluence Subdomain
You can find your Confluence subdomain by heading to the URL and copying the subdomain seen before .atlassian.net/wiki/home .
(in this example, the subdomain is in the blue box, educative####5) :
Getting your API Key in Confluence
In Confluence, login, and make sure that you are using the same email that you are using to log into your company’s Educative Instance. In order for the Confluence integration to work, this has to be true (1:1) in both instances; see the example below:
Incorrect:
Confluence Email |
Educative Email |
mary@testdev.com ❌ |
mary.smith@test.dev ❌ |
Correct:
Confluence Email |
Educative Email |
mary@testcorp.com ✅ |
mary@testcorp.com ✅ |
If you think that your instance does not have the correct email on file for your Educative instance, please email enterprise@educative.io for help in getting this updated for your instance.
Next, you’ll want to head to your user menu, at the top right, and clicking on “Settings”
This will take you to a new screen, where you will want to head to the left, and under “Your Settings” click “Password”
You’ll be taken to a third screen where you’ll see just below the area to update your password and Two-step verification, you will see “API token” Click the link to “Create and Manage API Tokens”
This will take you to another location where your API keys are kept, which may look something like either of these:
or
Once there, you will want to click the “Create API token” button and you’ll be taken to this screen:
Like the prompt says, chose something simple like:
“Educative (your Company)”
“Educative-content”
“(your company) Educative”
For the purposes of this article, we chose the name “Educative API Test”
Once you click “Create” you’ll be taken to this screen, but don’t click copy just yet:
Email Confirmation
Once the API token has been created, you should also see an email informing you that it has been created, with the subject, “Your new API token.” Like was mentioned earlier, it will not list the API token, it is simply informing you of it’s creation. If you get busy and forget or lose your API token, simply revoke the one listed that you created, and start over. You can even use the same name if it is properly memorable and specific for this use case, as only the connecting token is changing.
Activating the integration in Educative
In Educative, click the gear menu here:
You’ll see this menu open, click “Confluence Integration”:
Once you click, you'll see the option to paste your API key and confluence subdomain, again, logged in to Educative with the same email you used to log in to Confluence. You'll click to complete the integration, and you'll be brought to this screen:
Here you can see the API set up, with the various elements and how long the connection has been made, and if you need to update your connection. You can always head here by clicking the gear menu.
You're all set!
